Decision Theoretic Execution Strategies for Modularized Problem Solvers

چکیده
Large-scale problem solving algorithms will prove to be critical in implementing the long-term vision of cyberphysical systems (CPS). Such algorithms will be highly modularized -that is, they will use subroutines implemented behind abstract interfaces. A characteristic of many problem solving algorithms is that their performance varies wildly depending on which order subroutines are executed, with which parameters, and which computational resources. These choices must be made in the face of unpredictable subroutine behavior. We propose a formalism that treats the problem solving algorithm as a decision-making agent in a belief space, casting the problem of choosing a subroutine execution strategy as a Markov decision process (MDP). This formalism has already been applied successfully to many existing problems in robotics and AI, and holds promise for CPS applications and fundamental CPS research in the future.

DTProbLog: A Decision-Theoretic Probabilistic Prolog
We introduce DTPROBLOG, a decision-theoretic extension of Prolog and its probabilistic variant ProbLog. DTPROBLOG is a simple but expressive probabilistic programming language that allows the modeling of a wide variety of domains, such as viral marketing. In DTPROBLOG, the utility of a strategy (a particular choice of actions) is defined as the expected reward for its execution in the presence ...
متن کاملEfficient Decision-Theoretic Target Localization
Partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs) offer a principled approach to control under uncertainty. However, POMDP solvers generally require rewards to depend only on the state and action. This limitation is unsuitable for information-gathering problems, where rewards are more naturally expressed as functions of belief. In this work, we consider target localization, an information...
متن کاملA New Bi-Objective Model for a Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem with Discounted Cash Flows and four Payment Models
The aim of a multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem (MRCPSP) is to assign resource(s) with the restricted capacity to an execution mode of activities by considering relationship constraints, to achieve pre-determined objective(s). These goals vary with managers or decision makers of any organization who should determine suitable objective(s) considering organization strategi...
متن کاملAn SMT-based approach to weak controllability for disjunctive temporal problems with uncertainty
The framework of temporal problems with uncertainty (TPU) is useful to express temporal constraints over a set of activities subject to uncertain (and uncontrollable) duration. In this work, we focus on the most general class of TPU, namely disjunctive TPU (DTPU), and consider the case of weak controllability, that allows one to model problems arising in practical scenarios (e.g. on-line schedu...
متن کاملGame-theoretic randomization for security patrolling with dynamic execution uncertainty
In recent years there has been extensive research on game-theoretic models for infrastructure security. In time-critical domains where the security agency needs to execute complex patrols, execution uncertainty (interruptions) affect the patroller’s ability to carry out their planned schedules later. Indeed, experiments in this paper show that in some real-world domains, small fractions of exec...
